Manfred Weiss

Born 1940 in Germany. 1974 – 1977 full professor for labour law and civil law at the Law School of the University in Hamburg and 1977 to 2008 at the Law School of the Goethe University in Frankfurt. Professor emeritus since October 2008.

Visiting Professor at many universities all over the world. 2000 – 2003 President of the International Industrial Relations Association (IIRA, now renamed into ILERA). Member of the executive committee of the IIRA from 1989 – 1995 and from 2000 – 2006. 1990 – 1995 President of the German Branch (GIRA). 1998 – 2002 Deputy President of  German Lawyers’ Association (DJT). 1990 – 2002  Member of the executive committee of DJT

Consultant to the International Labour Organisation since 1980. missions e.g. in Zambia (1983 and 1985), SriLanka (1984), Sudan (1987), Trinidad (1988, Hungary (1991), South Korea (1991), Poland (1991), Bulgaria (1992 and 2006), South Africa (1994) and Romania (2004); Consultant to the Commission of the EU since 1986.

Many publications in German, European, International and Comparative Labour Law and Industrial Relations.

Honorary Doctorates: Budapest (2005), Lima (2006), Bordeaux (2011), Northwest University (NWU) / South Africa (2015). Honorary Professor: University of Cape Town (UCT) , Extraordinary Professor: NWU and University of Stellenbosch;  Award of the Labour Law Research Network (LLRN) for outstanding contribution to Labour Law (2015)
